Who we are

CASIP is a user led Cardiff based project for adults (18+) with experience of self injury. The group developed after it was realised there was a lack of services and support for people over the age of 25 who self-injure.
After discussions with staff from Ty Canna mental health day centre, the Crisis Recovery Unit and the Amber Project, six people with experience of self-injury met and formed CASIP.
The group is open to men and women over the age of 18. Prospective members will be met by 2 existing group members to determine whether the group will meet their needs.
At CASIP we feel strongly that the focus should remain positive whilst giving members the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences.
As well as a safe space to talk, the group offers a range of activities.
Why is a group like this needed?

Although there are good support services out there provided by the mental health service those who self-injure do not always get the help and understanding they need. This is usually due to a lack of training and understanding of self-injury.
Our group hopes to work towards dispelling the myths around self-injury and challenge the unhelpful views often held by the media, the public and even some medical professionals (which includes the idea that self-injury is something that only affects adolescents).
